Not only did the therapy enhance the metabolic function of aging mice and those on a high-fat diet, but it also demonstrated protective effects against metabolic decline in younger mice. CAR T Therapy Enhances Metabolic Performance in Mice In this investigation, younger mice underwent a two-month high-fat diet regimen, resulting in obesity and metabolic strain. Following the administration of experimental CAR T cells, the mice exhibited reduced body weight, improved fasting blood glucose levels, and enhanced glucose and insulin tolerance, despite maintaining the high-fat diet. Moreover, they had fewer senescent cells in the pancreas, liver, and adipose tissues compared to a control group. Comparable outcomes were observed in older mice experiencing diminished metabolic function due to natural aging.

A noteworthy observation was that older mice receiving the treatment displayed increased endurance during exercise, with no apparent significant side effects.

While the study suggests promising outcomes for the “healthspan” of mice, further investigations are essential to assess the potential extension of their lifespan. The researchers emphasize the ongoing exploration of senescence on a biological level and express interest in collaborating with industry partners to transition laboratory findings into clinical trials.
